Believe In Miracles
After all the chaos and destruction that Hurricane Dorian brought to the Bahamas this past year, many lost hope, homes, and their beloved pets, too. But, here is a “happy tail” of Miracle - the dog who symbolizes hope and strength. The dog who survived on rainwater for three weeks…
For over 21 days and 21 nights, little Miracle held onto life from under thousands of pounds of rubble as Hurricane Dorian ravaged his home. While searching for survivors, Big Dog Ranch Rescue’s infrared drone system picked up the heat of his broken body from under a collapsed building - and an air conditioning unit. When they finally pulled him out, he was alive - but barely.
Big Dog Ranch Rescue Founder and President, Lauree Simmons, said the dog was alive but emaciated. "What an incredible story that we were able to discover this dog alive after being trapped for so long. We are using the latest technology for our recovery teams to locate these animals. In this case drones played a key role," Simmons said.
Having survived purely on rainwater, his body was skeletal. 50% of his body mass had been depleted and he was too broken and weak to move any portion of his body. Miracle is safe and has recovered beautifully and now is living happily ever after with his lovely family, but his healing process both physically and emotionally was extremely extensive. He had to go through months of physical therapy - all while fighting his severe anemia and positive heartworm status. To this day, Big Dog Ranch Rescue continues to help urgent-care dogs like Miracle. We need YOUR help to continue rescuing, caring for, and treating these dogs. The Miracle Story is dedicated to helping urgent-care dogs like Miracle, who need medical treatments and support. All donations are for the many dogs that have been and will be saved. To date 160 dogs have been saved by Big Dog Ranch Rescue from the Bahamas.
And now, Miracle is well-fed, spoiled, and loved by his wonderful family, the Beaty’s! He’s even going to be the star of his own children’s book! Such a “happy tail” for all.
