The story of Haywood

Say hello to Haywood! Big Dog Ranch Rescue’s own small miracle!

Haywood was found on the side of a road near Sebring, FL, apparently shot with a pellet gun. After a 2 hour ride back to the ranch, it was discovered that Haywood couldn’t move and his prognosis was grave. He had multiple buckshot and gun shot wounds concentrated around the back of his head, and we feared the worst. But with constant care and encouragement, this sweet soul overcame the odds, and slowly showed improvement! First, he started with a small scoot around the floor and a quick wag of his tail. A few weeks later, he was mobile enough to walk outside, in the sunshine, on his own. As his improvement continued, he was able to get his “snip-snip” (neuter) procedure in preparation for being put up for adoption. He still has bullet fragments lodged near his spine, which could cause trouble if dislodged, so he will NEVER be permitted to wear a collar. But a harness suits him just fine.

You can visit Haywood and all of his bunk mates any day from 10am-5pm!
