Kennel Techs

Big Dog Ranch Rescue is one of the largest no-kill shelters in the Southeast and is currently undergoing expansion renovations. When completed, our new facility will be state-of-the-art. We are currently looking for experienced animal care technicians to make sure our dogs are well cared for and loved while they await adoption.

Responsibilities:

Keep kennels clean, orderly, and free of odors. Feed animals as scheduled and make sure they have water at all times. Comply with specific feeding programs related to behavioral enrichment for specific animals. Ensure that animals have appropriate bedding at all times. Exercise/socialize animals and abide by the dog-walking program in place. Ensure the comfort and cleanliness of shelter animals. Take inventory and stock supplies as needed. Do laundry as needed.

Qualifications:

Ability to restrain and handle animals. Ability to walk, bend, stand and reach constantly. Ability to work independently, as well as be a team player. Enjoy keeping animals and kennels clean.

Adoptions Administrative Assistant

Adoption Administrative Assistants will be responsible for answering calls on the adoption helpline regarding various inquires. They will retrieve messages from any missed calls and forward any calls that need to be handled by a supervisor to the appropriate departments.
Respond to general request emails and general adoption group emails. Process and review adoptions applications. Check in visitors and adopters. Keep up to date on animals available for adoption and animals entering the adoption program to be able to answer questions.
Prepare adoption folders, and keep adoption rooms stocked with materials.

Specific Requirements:
 Must support the mission, policies and practices of Big Dog Ranch Rescue.  Must be able to provide accurate information to the public at all times.
 Must have the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
 Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
 Have a general knowledge of all shelter programs and departments
 Have a background in animal care and behavior (preferred but not required)

Skills:
 High level ability to multi-task, organize and perform detailed tasks efficiently and with accuracy.
 Ability to be diplomatic and informative.
Qualifications:
 Must be computer literate.  Must be able to multi-task.
 Must be able to provide excellent customer service.
 General knowledge of animal care and keeping is preferred, but not required.

Expectations:
 Expect to adhere to an agreed schedule (this department operates Monday – Sunday)
 Contact Supervisor if he/she cannot fulfill said schedule or will be late.
 Agree to work one or two (4) hour shifts per week (10am – 2pm / 2pm-5pm)

Training Curriculum:
 Volunteer Orientation and interview with Volunteer Manager.
 Shadow Supervisor one shift.

The work of an Adoption Administrative Assist is communication and the ability to speak to a diverse range of people. The perfect candidate must be outgoing, confident and possess excellent customer care skills. This person should speak clearly and be friendly on the phone while demonstrating a professional and empathetic attitude and demeanor.

Bather/Groomer

The volunteer groomer will be responsible for bathing and grooming shelter animals. Volunteer groomers will also be responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of the grooming room and its inventories.

Specific Requirements:

 Must have the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
 Must have excellent oral communication skills.

 Have a general knowledge of all shelter programs and departments.
 Have a background in animal care and behavior (preferred but not required)

 Detailed knowledge of animal care, keeping and behavior is preferable.
 High level of ability to multi-task, organize and perform detailed tasks efficiently and with accuracy.

Qualifications:

 Grooming experience preferred but not required.
 Must be able to multi-task.
 Must have good customer service skills.
 General knowledge of animal care and keeping is preferred.

Expectations:

 Expect to adhere to agreed schedule.
 Contact Supervisor if he/she cannot fulfill said schedule or will be late.

 Must be able to build and maintain a positive relationship with staff members.

Training Curriculum:

 Volunteer orientation and interview with Volunteer Manager.
 Volunteer groomers will expected to handle the shelter animals with the greatest of care, understanding that the shelter is a stressful environment. Volunteers groomers will agree to a schedule, be communicative and take good instruction from shelter staff. At all times, Volunteer groomers will behave as professionals while at the Ranch.

Trainer

Training shelter dogs to walk on a loose leash, sit and basic manners, in order to increase adoptions and reduce animal returns.

Specific Requirements:

 Must support the mission, policies and practices of Bog Dog Ranch Rescue. Must have the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
 Have a general knowledge of all shelter programs and departments.
 Have a background in animal care and behavior.

 Able to record animal’s training sessions in the training log.
 Must be able to understand and adapt to many training styles. Must understand positive reinforcement.
 Be able to handle large dogs that may pull on leash.
 Be able to enter kennels and leash up large dogs.
 Must be able to report to staff trainer on problems and progress.

Skills:

 Able to use good observation skills
 Ability to provide care to animal – have common sense and patience.
 Need to be prompt and reliable for the times scheduled
 Self-motivated and have the ability to make appropriate judgment calls. Able to complete multiple tasks, and have good written skills.
 Follow safety protocol as outlined in the volunteer training manuals.
 Detailed knowledge of animal care, keeping and behavior.

Qualifications:

 Must be able to work with staff trainers and adapt to various conditions. Be in good physical condition.
 General knowledge of animal care and keeping.
 Love of dogs.

 Show patience and compassion.

Expectations:

 Must be able to commit to 3 two hour sessions per week.
 Must be on time and prepared.
 Ability to create and maintain positive relationships with staff and volunteers.

Training Curriculum:

 Volunteer orientation and interview with Volunteer Manager. Attend Dog Training 1 with staff trainer.
