National Dog Day!

If you are obsessed with dogs or have one of your own to love, you may be aware that National Dog Day is on August 26th. If you didn’t know that this day was fast approaching, or even a day to be celebrated, now you know! National Dog Day recognizes and brings awareness to mixed breeds and pure breeds from shelters and rescues. This day encourages people to celebrate their dogs and share their stories, hoping it will inspire friends and family to rescue a dog of their own. Here at Big Dog Ranch Rescue in Loxahatchee Groves, we have many dogs of all breeds and sizes who are ready to find their furever homes. In honor of National Dog Day, here are some ways to celebrate your dog or help support other dogs and shelters in your community.

Posting a picture and sharing a story on your social media is a great way to show off your shelter or rescue baby. By showing your friends and family that you chose to adopt and not shop, you’ll give them the idea to rescue a dog as well. If social media is the way you decide to celebrate National Dog Day, don’t forget to tag or mention the shelter or rescue you paired up with to get your furever friend. Whether it’s on Facebook or Instagram, sharing your dog and where they came from is a great way to celebrate National Dog Day.

Because National Dog Day is all about the dogs, why not volunteer your time to them? You don’t just have to volunteer on this one day a year. Find a local rescue or shelter that you support and see if they accept volunteer help. By volunteering, you’ll become familiar with the organization and can use it as a recommendation whenever friends come to you expressing interest in wanting to adopt a dog. You may even find a new furry friend to adopt for yourself.

If you don’t necessarily have the time to volunteer, and if you don’t have a dog of your own to post about on social media, consider donating or sponsoring a dog at your local shelter or rescue. Donating a one time gift or a recurring gift could mean the difference between dogs having beds or being fed, or even receiving medical care in times of need. Even donating items such as old bedding or towels, dog food, or toys, greatly helps rescues and shelters take care of their dogs. Some organizations may even have their own Amazon wish list or company store for retail items in-person or online. Here at Big Dog Ranch, you can even purchase a brick or a bench in your name or someone else’s. Imagine getting your dog’s name on a brick to celebrate National Dog Day!

National Dog Day is coming soon, and these are a few ways we thought could be a fun way to celebrate the day. Whether you’re posting on social media, volunteering your time, or donating supplies or to sponsor, there is something that everyone can do to bring awareness to this day for celebrating dogs of all kinds, big and small.
