In the past we have placed courtesy posts on our site but we have changed our policy and are not taking any new requests. In order to give you the best chance of finding a new home for your pet, we recommend posting on Petfinder. Petfinder is the most popular site on the internet for adopters looking for a dog. They rank #595 among all sites on the web compared to Big Dog Ranch Rescue at #195,000. We post all our dogs on Petfinder and adopters often mention that is where they find us. As you can imagine, we work very hard to find homes for all the dogs and we must focus on the dogs that are in our care.
A few hints when positing information on your dog:
- Be completely honest and tell your dog’s story for better and for worse. Tell the adopter exactly what the dog is like and why you are giving him/her up. Don’t feel compelled to make it all sound sunny and positive. If that were really the situation, then your dog would not need a new home.
- Post great photos. There is no better way for someone to connect with a dog than a great photo. The photo is what will make them reach out to you.
- Take the time to talk to people and make sure they are going to provide your dog with a good home.
- Be flexible. Be willing to travel to place the dog in a good home.
